Shortly after noon, Philadelphia police went to a duplex on the 800 block of Solly Ave. in response to a report of a person with a weapon. Witnesses directed them to a second-floor residence where they encountered a 33-year-old man who had blood on his arms and clothing, police said.

Inside the kitchen, police found the body of 24-year-old Bonnie Eckstrom on the floor and unresponsive. She had multiple stab wounds of the torso. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. Police took the man into custody and recovered a weapon that may have been used in the stabbing. The suspect was identified as Joshua Nieto and charged yesterday with murder and related offenses.

Detectives believe that the Eckstrom and Nieto were in a relationship and lived together in the apartment with their 1-year-old daughter. The man stabbed the woman during a heated argument, police said.

Police found the daughter in a bedroom with blood on her clothing. She was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children as a precaution, although she was uninjured. ••
